The Sony 46" TV in our exercise room only has one HDMI input. I had been getting by using other inputs for the various A/V gear we use there until I wanted to move our DVD player from the living room to the exercise room. Since I wanted to setup 5.1 audio speakers I needed to use the HDMI output of the DVD player. Since our Xfinity slave DVR only has HDMI out, I needed something to switch the HDMI sources to the single HDMI input on the TV. The Denon AVR-S640H also provides the necessary outputs to accomplish the 5.1 audio goal. The $249.99 price seemed affordable to me and the Denon Denon AVRX1200W we use in the living room works really well and has very high quality audio so I got the AVR-S640H. I used the automated room equalization function with the include microphone and this resulted in very nice 5.1 surround imaging. I suppose if I wanted to use it for some of the functions that other reviewers complain about here I would not like it so much but it does everything I need at an affordable price.
